I was going to use dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn_small-nv64k because it
#Linksys e1200 v1 dd wrt firmware install#
The next thing I want to do is install a version of the firmware that supports OpenVPN. Evidently it needed to be powered off for quite a while.
I guess my mistake was failing to wait, but I took every wait period in the wiki and added a few minutes just to be safe. I pointed my browser to 192.168.1.1 and I got the router's home page! I've set my username and password. I plugged it in after having it sitting unpowered for over an hour, checked to make sure I was in the right IP range, and I got ping responses back! ttl=100 at first, and then 64. I looked at note 6 and decided to try it. I'd done the 30/30/30 several times, and was pinging the daylights out of it before my last post. Posted: Sun 20:15 Post subject: NOT bricked! I don't want to accidentally brick this thing so if anyone can provide some guidance I'd appreciate it.īefore giving up on your e1200, you might want to take a look at note 6 of the Peacock Thread. Maybe the feature is impossible on my router? In which case, it might also be to simply use dd-wrt.v24_vpn_generic.bin
He either screwed up the steps (suggested by the final post in the thread) or the build he was using at the time (18946) was buggy. Then reflash with dd-wrt.v24-19342_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn-nv60k.binĪnother user tried a similar path on his E1200 v1 and bricked it. I also found this German thread where a user seems to have my exact question and the only reply recommends dd-wrt.v24-18946_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn_small-nv64k.bin.įlash with dd-wrt.v24-19342_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e1200v1.bin The build linked from the wiki is also a NEWD2 and I'm hesitant to try such a build based on the warnings in the announcements.īased on this, maybe there is a generic Broadcom build that will support it? The E1200 v1 has only 4mb of flash ROM but the wiki claims you need at least 8 for OpenVPN to work unless you use the "Broadcom VPN" build. The installation guide links to build 19342 and I know from the peacock thread that 19xxx does not support OpenVPN. I've spent a few hours reading and skimming mandatory and relevant posts but I'm not confident I have found a firm answer to this question. In my search for that functionality I stumbled on dd-wrt. I have a Linksys E1200 v1 (current firmware version 1.0.02 build 5Sep 27, 2011) and was interested in using my router to connect to a VPN using OpenVPN.
